ISCA Announces 3rd International Islamic Unity Conference, 2001

(Washington, DC 08/11/00) - The Islamic Supreme Council of America, along
with its affiliates, the As-Sunna Foundation of America, Kamilat Women's
Organization and The Muslim Magazine, are proud to announce plans to launch
the 3rd International Islamic Unity Conference, tentatively scheduled for
the summer of 2001 in Washington, DC.

The first Islamic Unity Conference, held in Los Angeles in 1996, hosted over
128 speakers from around the globe for three days. The main focus of the
first conference was the plight of orphans around the world.

The second conference, held in Washington, DC in August 1998, expanded on
the initial success of the first. According to conference Chairman and
Founder, Shaykh Hisham Kabbani, "the location of the conference was a great
blessing." Held in the elegant, centrally-located Omni Shoreham Hotel, the
event attracted worldwide media attention to the Muslim community. The live
transmission of the opening session via Internet attracted NBC, CBS, CNN,
and CSPAN, which broadcast lengthy segments of the conference.

His Excellency Aslan Maskhadov, President of Chechnya, was the guest of
honor and keynote speaker at the conference, whose sessions focused on a
variety of subjects, including the plights of Kosova and Chechnya. ISCA
arranged for President Maskhadov, as well as many of the other foreign
dignitaries and religious leaders, to meet with key US officials and discuss
the relationship between their countries and the US. However, Shaykh Kabbani
states, "More important than the politics was the positive presentation of
Islam by the religious leaders. By demonstrating Islam's moderation, love
and compassion, Muslim leaders have given new life to Islam in the West."

The conference featured over 150 internationally renowned speakers including
top-ranking politicians, Islamic scholars, activists and intellectuals. In
addition, Kamilat Women's Organization hosted a parallel women's conference
attended by a large assembly.

Mateen Siddiqui, conference manager, noted, "Both of these conferences
introduced Islamic concepts of entertainment and celebration, something that
was lacking in previous Islamic assemblies in America. Groups from Bosnia,
Malaysia, and Indonesia showed us authentic traditional recitation and
chanting, and Quranic tajweed by some of the world's top reciters resonated
in the audiences' hearts. The sweetness of these productions brought tears
to our eyes."

By popular demand, the 3rd International Islamic Unity Conference will
revive the warm and lively intellectual atmosphere of the first two
conferences. Several new and interesting features will be announced in the
near future. Meanwhile, Muslims should make this conference the highlight of
the summer of 2001. With thought-provoking themes and intellectual
discourse, flavored with spirituality, prayer, recitation and the
remembrance of Allah, all under the guidance of some of the world's greatest
spiritual leaders, this conference promises to be an event the whole Muslim
family can enjoy.
