Mob lynches two Israeli soldiers
The troops, who were in Palestinian custody, were stabbed and beaten to death before
being tossed out of a window.
The lynchings have raised tension in the area to breaking point and have rocked the
peace process.
The blood-stained bodies were thrown into a crowd of hundreds of youths in
Palestinian-ruled Ramallah, witnesses said. A car in which the men had apparently been
travelling was burnt.
The prospect loomed of strong Israeli retaliation after the killings and more
bloodshed in two weeks of violence that had claimed 95 lives, mainly Arab, before the
soldiers' deaths.
The radio said the bodies of the two soldiers were taken to an Israeli army liaison
office near Ramallah where a military doctor pronounced them dead. Palestinian police
sources said the two were stabbed to death.
