ATTN: I have back problems, and am on percocet and SOMA for back pain after a car
accident (not my fault), so forgive me if I seem a little "off". Anyhow, these
are my thoughts on this thread...

Firstly, PLEASE do NOT turn this mailing list in to a flame pit. I was happy
that at least 1 of the HL mailing lists had some smart people on it that were
somewhat above that. In other words, this is the first flame war I've
personally seen on THIS list (HLcoders) in a long while. Please don't make this
a trend. PLEASE!

Coders list should be "off limits" to flames, this is really supposed to be for
coders ONLY, and I can see some people on it have NO idea about coding. I'm a newbie
coder, and am just barely in that group. I've done NO mods, I just do plugins and such
for administration of servers (AM plugins, AMX plugins, etc) and my knowledge of AMX is
limited due to lack of interested and not having a server of my own. Plus my back
problems have kept me away.

Second, on to the subject that's really at hand. Do I think that Valve screwed
up on this last update? YES! I've posted it in other lists and I'll post it
here, specifically here because it's things like not releasing a new SDK BEFORE
updates that really makes me disappointed in Valve. Why? Well read on...

Mod makers keep Valve alive, you know it, they know it, I know it. Without mod
makers bringing new games (yes, basically full games) to the community for
free. That is (in no small part) what keeps people buying HL/HL2. Because they
know it doesn't stop at HL2/CS:S/DOD:S, etc. They know they'll get more mods. I
can tell you that I got HL2 for HL2sp, DOD:S, and the 3rd party mods.

Dystopia in specific really is a cool mod. I am quite pissed that they have
screwed them (not on purpose I'm sure, but still). The mod is UNPLAYABLE atm,
and since no SDK update, it will remain so for a while, maybe a long while.
This HAS to make mod makers really upset. Being mod makers - make NO money on
their products directly. They only get the chance to show off their work and
maybe get paying jobs. OH course they also get the proud feeling knowing people
enjoy their mod.

That said... Would it be too hard to update the SDK with all the new shaders,
etc that you will introduce with upcoming source updates? I don't think so.
Perhaps it was this time, because of DOD:S, but I don't seem to see Valve do
that at all, in the best of times. Valve, that's just plain RUDE! Show a little
respect to those that keep (or at least HELP keep) you in business. It's the
least you can do.

That way they can work on getting their code in order before the update and
maybe be ready for it when it happens. Those are just my thoughts, but I know
on this subject I am right. So please tell us, why don't you do that?

Anyway, thats all I have to say... Have a great day everyone!

P.S. Off-topic a bit... Overall I like steam. I think it has it's slight
problems, aside from the bugs that creep up (all software does that) but that's
my personal experience. I support it, it's the wave of the future, and Valve is
ahead of the game in that regard ;-)
