From just a straight performance comparison (not from a
breakage/support standpoint), then for the hlds games, there is
basically no difference between the two platforms (technically I've
found that disk operations happen faster on the linux hlds, but really
it makes no difference except like 1 second on REALLY big maps)

Now for srcds it does seems as though there's a very measurable
performance diffference between the two platforms, with the Windows
server outperforming the Linux server on the same hardware with
basically the same tweaks (mainly the timer tweaks that apply to both
platforms). My platform hardware is Dell 2800 Xeon P4 2.8 or Aberdeen
Stonehaven A141s with Opteron 248s, 252s, or 254s all running either
Win2k3R2 or Gentoo Linux (2.6.15.1 with some patches related to latency.)

I run a P4 3.0 gig with one gig of ram, running fedoracore 4 and i have
never run a more stable server. i have run strictly win2k in the past
and
now that i have run the linux distro ill never go back to win2k

currently running two dod 1.3 servers at 1X32 slot with amxmodx/metamod
and
1X13 slot private match server with no addons. im also running 1x20
slot
HLTV server.
the cpu stays well below 70% when the 32 slot server is full. this
server
is also Boosted.

The hit reg on a win2k server with Tick set at 100 is not as good as the
fedora with that same 100 tick. the only way to achieve the same hit
reg
with a win2k box is to tweak the quantums in the registry. Be
careful
doing this if your not sure what your doing.
Here is a link to a tutorial for tweaking the win OS quantums

I realise this is Windows list, but im just wondering if any admins have
any
performance comparisions between Windows 2k pro and Fedora Core 4/5
64bit,
running with an AMD64 Athlon chip for both HLDS and SRCDS. I have a box
with
the following specs:

Windows 2000 Pro.
AMD64 Athlon 3400+ (Socket 754)
1GB RAM.

I run a few servers on the box, but wondering if I would get more
performance and stability if i switched to a linux 64bit OS. I cant
afford
a
64bit Windows OS unfortunatly. Any thoughts appreciated :)

Try taking off all addons / mods from your server, restart it and see if
he
still gets banned or kicked or what ever.
Then post the logs again.

It looks like something else is banning him, not VAC. Must be some
random
plugin. But you said earlier that he could play for a bit, and then VAC

Can you post the logs here? I'd (and I'm sure others) would like to
see
them. By examining the logs, we might be able to shed some light on

this

mystery.

that is correct, we tested it. Also if he restarts steam he can join

for

a lil while before vac kicks him. of ig he joins then leaves
straight
away he won't get back in. anyone else think this is strange. Also
if
there is nothing we can do valve just lost a valuable customer (but
aren't customers valuable???) and before you ask i am positive it is
a
vac ban. i had my host check the logs twice after i had 3 times

He is only VAC banned from your server? He can play on other VAC

ok i can understand that ook. I just think it's wrong that again

valve

has released a product that is unfinished/sub standard and banned
someone for just being shit. Also i did check the list on the

hlstats

website and the user in question is not listed there but is listed

in

the vac bans section of the control panel. also interestingly he
is
only
vac banned from my server. which i think is extremely wierd
becasue

a

vac ban is system wide is it not? so can some one explain that
away
for
me.

and finally a parting shot to all those assholes that said the ban

was

deserved. Wait till it happens to you and see how i laugh. (I
won't
swear again but insert expletives here about 10 will do)

If VAC is reporting the ban, then you have to talk to Valve. But
don't
hold
your breath until they do something about it. No matter what the
reason,
your friend is pretty much screwed if VAC is reporting the ban.
However,
this has nothing to do with hlstatsx.

i was playing with him at the time he was banned. at first the
ban was
only server based but once we deleted the entriesa couple of
times vac
was reporting it. I personally can not stand hackers/cheaters i
think
they are worse than scum so he is innocent

hlstatx does not tell VAC to ban someone. If he got banned by
VAC, he
probably deserved it. If he is truely innocent, and VAC has

falsely

banned
yet another person, then your friend is screwed. He will need
to

go

and buy
another key.

Did VAC ban him, or is he just banned form the server itself?
Hlstatsx
can
ban people from the server, and there are a couple of settings
that can
control this.

on my post about hlstatsx, yeah i did my webadmin "forgot" to
do
it. but
now i have a new problem with it. IT TOLD VAC TO BAN ONE OF MY
CLAN
MEMBERS FOR CHEATING. and trust me if you saw him play you
would
laugh
he sucks so hard. there is no way he cheats and valve policy
is
not to
lift any vac bans. WTF DO WE DO. coz i am not goin to put the
server
into insecure mode and let all the loser who do cheat play on
my
precious.

I think this could be one for alfred

This happens in hlstats if you don't have the server entered
in the
admin
setup, or if the server game/ip is wrong. Have you gone into
admin
setup via
the web page and setup a server for it to use?

Did you ask in the hlstatsx forum?

hey guys i really need some help here. I'm spend 4 hours
with

my

admin
team trying to install hlstatsx. We got it all on no
problems
and
everythng looked good to go with no problems. except when we
start up
the gameserver we get the following error

E997: UNRECOGNIZED SERVER: RL 0.

we have no idea why. I'm using the latest beta of srcds and
also the
latest beter of mani. The error seems quite common but after
looking
around the forums using google i can't find anything that
match's
our
problem. Can anyone help i've put an example of the logs

below.

the logs are transfering and we can't honestly see why it
doesn't
work.
Has anyone met this error using hlstatsx?

not a
very
patient person.
