Just tried it and had no change on the winsock error for me. It did however 
clear the crazy % complete you see during the update process.
with existing .blobs
-> last line in update
14394308100.00% c:\srcds/orangebox\srcds.exe
Connection Reset, WinSock Error 10054 "Connection reset by peer"

after deleting .blobs

I just deleted all the .blob files and restarted the update. I was getting that 
winsock error as well, deleting the .blob files seems to fix it.
