Do you think that it is as much the older code of HL trying to keep up with
the demand for graphics and events as it is that it is just the age of the
code itself and the number of revisions that have taken place without a
rewrite?

my English teacher would have killed me for that :)

Weird. I have an old PIII 600EB server here with 256MB RAM which can't run
one 16 player CS server without lagging to heck, and that's without
pingboost. Same machine quite happily runs one 20 player RTCW server though.
Go figure :)
