I'm sure they are changing the source significantly - I dont think it will
be as big an issue as expected - but of course their will always be
hacks/bugs - but I believe Valve is changing things up alot - hence the way
extended release date.

I think they're trying to get the engine working properly and optimized
before concentrating 100% on cheaters - dont wanna totally suck the blood
out of them - let 'em work. I know those guys are working probably 12-16
hours or more a day and still make time to answer emails, etc. They're
probably asking themselves - "Whats a family life again?" :P
There where a couple of days I dont think Alfred even slept!

However - VAC does work to an extent as its been stated - and I'm sure it'll
continue to improve. Remember - this part of Steam is probably on the back
burner - being its such an old game and more focus is being put on HL2.
That is alotta hats to have to wear for a company as small as Valve.

I do like the suggestion someone made of getting with the developers of CD -
or even Valve looking it over to incorporate the technology/structure they
use that is effective against cheaters.

Good things come to those who are patient! :-)

Have a great weekend!!!!!!!!!!

Britt

Yes, it is very hard to keep a server clean now-a-days. Admins have to work
full time to keep the server playable for the rest. Admins hardly ever get
any more play time as most of their time is spent spectating and demoing
cheaters. I wish we at least had a place to send in the demo's with steam
id's so Valve could add them to their master list after confirming the demo.

If you thing cheating is bad now, just watch what will happen with hl2. Now
that the source is out there, the cheats will be more advanced and there
will be no way to detect them since they will be compiled with the actual
source for hl2. There is no way Valve will be able to rewrite the whole
engine as to not make our own servers vulnerable to attack and even turned
against us. The Steam client would become the largest, most widely
distributed Trojan in the world used in dos attacks and other miscellaneous
acts.

I understood your English just fine and I agree. What Valve should have done
(Or should do) is hire the guy that wrote the original Cheating Death. This
1 man did more for the anticheat effort than Valve's whole company could do.

CD integrated directly with Halflife and able to take advantage of Steam for
updates would be a formidable combination.

Even CD in it's current form has potential but the holdback is this little
thing called pride. Valve can't admit that VAC is not the end all for
cheating. I really hope they have something better than what we're seeing
now for HL2, if not, it's gonna be déjà vu all over again.

We can always dream..........

Hello,

I think another problem is that Valve don't help cummunity for war against
cheat because VSM is not very good, but Cheating Death for example work very
well, but as each update, CD don't work, why did Valve don't work with
United admins ? This could be a great thing for helping community to work
about Cheat.

ps : Sorry for my poor English.
