Very polite comments from you. No need to get rude on us. Closing servers must not have been an easy decision but some people just dont tolerate advertisements when they have had the game without them before. While the advertisements are not at the server itself, they still need a server to be shown. Would it be the "create server" or dedicated or hlds, its still a server. People who do not like the advertisements, have closed their servers down because of them, not because they think that adverts are on their servers.
I'm not denying that running the game doesnt eat money but since Steam was established and 1.6 released along with it, the game itself has been pretty much integrated into Steam and its income, hence without Steam, 1.6 would not work nor would Source either. Therefore, expences of the game can be covered with Steam income. Steam already has adds and they are more widely seen than in 1.6 so basically Valve just is looking for more ways to earn income. They have not made a statement of being in funding problems or anything like that. Instead i remember of reading that this is new way for advertisers to have their products to be advertised on new channels. Needless to say, I and several others are very much against advertisements. The ad-functionality is client-side not SERVER-SIDE. Your servers do not have any ad's or so. Don't whine please. HL is 10 years old game and maintaining the games functionality cost much money to valve and the money has to come somewhere. Get a life or go fuck yourself.
