For luck, I tried "gem install rails -v2.1.0 without doing a full uninstall. All apeared to go fine but, when trying to make the thingbob app got messages saying "couldn't activate rails 2.1.0, rails 2.1.1 already activated"
So..I'm uninstalling everything using the uninstall command in the c:ruby dir and will reinstall from scratch, specifying rails 2.1.0 and post results later.
