Peter, your suggestion makes sense and I actually like it, since it would narrow the gap with a vanilla rails app, but I don't know what the other developer are thinking about it. The best place to start a discussion of that kind is the hobodev group, so I suggest you to post it there.
The auto generated taglibs will contain all what is related to each model: pages, forms, cards, and I would be happy if we could get rid of the viewhints stuff all toghether (it looks almost void since we moved the model/attribute renaming to the locale files), but I don't know whether it is easy to achieve that or not. The best candidate for your idea is the rails3 branch, so you could fork hobo and make your idea work in your forked rails3 branch.
