I may be extremely sensitive but I am sure these chemicals are not
good
for anybodies health.
And sometimes I am glad that my body has such a fine tuned warning
system. I believe that on the long run this may protect me from much
more serious illnesses.

I keep on knowing inside that there is a very good reason for being as
sensitive as I am. There have been several occasions where just
exactely
this fine tuned warning system has saved my life and/or saved other
people's lives.

i agree.
i have a very sensitive sense of smell ...
and this is enhanced by spending a great deal of my time out
in the woods and away from many of our man-made smells/odors.
and i have learned to smell fox, deer, various trees/wood ... etc.
so i notice the slightest scent ... esp artificial ...
and can detect chemicals, leaks, etc. there have been many
times at work when i can alert others to some leak or problem
when it involves chemicals or vapors where they shouldn't be.
on more than one occasion i have entered a workspace and immediately
told people there was a problem ... and that they needed to vacate
the area until we could find it. and after the fact, found that
many of them had been experiencing headaches and felt sick ...
but had no idea why. i can even usually find the source.
it seems strange to me because it is so obvious and i have a hard
time understanding why others can't detect these things ...
that they are not aware of them. but that seems to be the case.
so i am like the canary in the caves for them ...
and my "nose" is legendary there. ;)
i tell them when it is going to rain ...
and can tell if the meal is tainted before the waiter gets half
way across the room.
(i can smell bad lobster a long way off) ;)

one day when i began sniffing the air during a morning meeting at
work ... trying to place a scent i had detected.
they all asked me what it was i somewhat like a skunk ... but not
so strong ... more like a fox ... closer to a weasle perhaps ...
and at that, one guy jumped up and said he had just gotten a
pet ferret the day before!!! well ... that was it.
i could smell the ferret on his clothes.
so they know they can count on my nose ...
and we have a lot of fun with it.

hmmmmm ...
wondering if i could get paid for that ...
you know ... there are folks who can detect parts per billion
of various substances ... who work for perfume manufacturers ...
or vineyards ... yeah ... wine tasting. ;)
or a coffee buyer ...
i wonder how one would go about being tested?
i am in need of a new career. ;)

but i digress.

chemicals, paints, perfumes ... these all wipe me out.
i have to just avoid them if at all possible.
it's hard to find laundry detergent that is not perfumed ...
and i have to hold my breath when i walk down that aisle
in the store ... find what i want and run away quickly. ;)

tell me ...
why do we need scented toilet paper? !!!!!!
hehehe ... i can't believe we've bought into that.

I also think that when we get used to unnatural circomstances and
learn
to be too comfortable with them, then the unnatural circomstances will
be driven to an even greater extreme.
And that the volume of modern society is turned up to such an extreme
as
it is, I do not believe to be healthy, and I think that many people
loose touch with their finer perceptions because they try to cope and
are made to believe that their sensitivity is abnormal and that they
should be cured from their sensitivity.
When I walk in the street and look at people 99,99 % of them look to
me
like they are sleepwalking.
And I do see that as the price one pays for dulling down to an avarage
perception tolerance. It is as if most people need to be shocked out
of
trance all the time and need more and more intense stimuli. I think it
is scary....

And all this rediculous overload only continues because big money is
made out of it.
Money making has in many ways become a greater interest then
enviromental health and health and well being of people and other
beings
in general.
IMO it is completely rediculous that a majority of people now believes
that they need to spray toxic chemicals all over themselves in order
to
smell good. They smell awful, and are not only poisoning themselves
but
everybody around them them as well.

yes ... certainly, with smell, some will have more natural ability
than others but ... i also think a great deal of it has to do with
one's awareness of one surroundings ... whatever environment they
find themselves in. of practicing awareness.
i think we all have senses that are much more sesitive than we
realize ... but we haven't learned, or perhaps it would be more
accurate to say we have "unlearned" how to use them ...
we don't know how to truly pay attention. i think this is true of
awareness in general. it's not just smell. i find i can see and
hear things that others miss as well. but then i practice and
practice and practice being aware ... of as much as possible ...
of not only of "things" ... but of the relationships of the "things"
i sense all of the time. and i think it is this awareness of the
relationships is what makes some things stand out from others ...
where otherwise they might not be noticed.
so i am always amazed when folks miss something that to me seems
to be quite obvious.
i think you are onto something Desi ...
this dulling down of perception.
NOISE comes to mind. (didn't mean to shout) ;)
how much useless noise is there? and people teach themselves to
ignore it ... to make it part of the background ... to make it
normal. drives me nuts ... as i am constantly tring to fine tune
my perceptions ... to be aware of everything all around.
so ... after a few days of visiting my dad ...
with the tv constantly on ... i can't wait to get away from
"civilization" and back to listening and actually "hear" and "see"
the world.

And there's just big money made out of it. That's the only reason.
Well.... when money does not serve our interests anymore, it is time
for
another system, isn't it...
<<

~~~
yup.
money certainly isn't something i have to worry about ...
as i seem to be quite "free" of it. ;)
is one who knows he has enough."
