Hello HolyGeek, http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Open_Source
>Hi Lob and all, > >Today the entire contact-list is back again. >Must have been a glitz on the side of ICQ, or maybe they were doing some >maintenance or upgrading on their system. >It looks slightly different now. ah good news - could have been a security thing? - 9/11 anniversary? . . . the next 'threat' is supposedly gonna be through the net (according to some analysts) wonder which oil reserves are gonna be held responsible for that? >>I can not get ICQ to block this person >> >> >That is weird. >Isn't there a way to file a complaint to ICQ and maybe ask them to ban >this person? not worth the effort I am using Miranda (or rather not as this person comes on and swamps me with nonsense) >>Maybe it is time to go over to jabber? >> >> >googled it up: >http://www.jabber.com/index.cgi >Will check it out after I move back to my own place. >I expect to do so in a few days :-) I had another look and to be honest it is not quite ready yet - ICQ may be the better bet - dunno . . . let me know . . . >I would love that! >For me at this moment only typed chats will work. >I still do not have sound working on this machine now, and then I don't >have the right drivers for voice chat. >Might be fixed when installing windows XP, which I probably will a few >weeks from now. XP is good - there are a lot of tools that will help make it as secure as Linux (well more so) - some are on MajorGeek.com An easy one that comes to mind is SafeXP - highly recommended >Will be back chatting with you guys in no time. > >For me somewhere between 11 AM and 1 PM or between 8.30 PM and 2 AM >would be good times. Local time for me, I mean. I think I am on GMT +2 >here. >This is after I moved back again. At the moment I just cannot tell in >advance when I am available. > >Love, >Desi How about Sunday 26 Sept at 2100 GMT as our start? >> Ariadne Browser (for DOS) is an amazing >> accomplishment that should be arachne browser - link is here http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Open_Source >So, have we come full circle - back to considering DOS >as a real working environment? Somewhere around here i >have an old IBM luggable computer - the kind with the >lid that flips back and becomes a monitor - black >background with VERY green letters. It's so old that >it does not have Windows at all, and yet there are >programs that work on it adequately. I used to have 286 luggable - perfectly OK for writing and probably quite a lot of stuff . . . >> In XP it is sometimes difficult to get a command >> prompt >> go to Run and type in "command" (works in other >> winows versions) >> > >Does the command "cmd" work? That works somewhere as i >recall. - strange but I remember that - but does not work for me might be a Win98 thing . . . > >> >> LOL >> >> I can not get ICQ to block this person > >You could try this (which i have done) - rclick on the >person in the ICQ contact list, and select remove (or >maybe it is called delete?) That will remove the >person from your contact list. Then, when they next >send you a message, you should receive a prompt asking >if you wish to receive a message from someone not on >your contacts. You can then decline. (Note - you may >also need to check your ICQ options to make sure that >you are configured to be prompted when messages come >in from people not on your list.) I am using Miranda and what you say makes sense but does not work >Ah, we are back to the notion of a Moveable Feast - >very good. I like it. How about Sunday 26 Sept at 2100 GMT as our start? >PS - I downloaded the saber program using FireFox. >Faster than IE. BUT, Firefox is not set as a default >to auto prompt for file save destination folder. If >you download and it starts saving without prompting, >click cancel and then click options, and you will see >near the top a radio button to click to enable file >save location prompting. Not sure what you mean to convey - Opera has an excellent easy to use transfer window that opens up to show what you are downloading and its progress (giving an accurate idea of how long it will take) >YOU......GMT ......EDT >(& yosy?) > >11am ... 9am ... 5am >to >1am ... 11am ... 7am (6 to 7 might work for me) > >830pm .. 630pm .. 230pm >to >2am ... mid .. 8pm (afternoon to eve works for me) > >when you get settled ... >shout ... >will make it when possible. How about Sunday 26 Sept at 2100 GMT as our start? >I'm using Lizzie's DELL XP system now and have checked. To access a DOS prompt, do >Start > Run > cmd > > >Why it is command on Win 2k, but on Win NT and Win XP it is cmd is beyond me. Duh . . . Dunno . . . >Hi All - > >Would love to participate in the chats, but 5AM here is just not reasonable. > >I know that you don't want to take a break in the middle of your day to chat, but >getting up before sunrise is not healthy for us here, and the time being suggested is >well before sunrise... and it would make it very difficult for people in the West >Coast of the US to participate - it would be 2AM there. > >8AM as we have been doing is a reasonable time to chat; that is 12:00 GMT, 1PM in the >UK, and 2PM in Europe. It had been discussed and agreed earlier that 12GMT worked for >most people. > >love and peace, >joyce 2 chats? on Sunday 26 Sep? >last friday ... >lob, yosy and i all logged in as yosy. >and pretended to all be yosy. >i nearly forgot who i was. ;) lol You too eh . . . LOL We could maybe go for a window chat in other words rather than an hour of chat we go for 2 or even 3 hour slots with the times we will try and make? This is why I have made it two weeks hence so we get times and (loose) commitments together - maybe even make it a month from now? I also suggest - using Joyce's movable feast idea and have it one of these forums that most of us are on insightpractice ruminations nasrudin then we arrange another one on another forum for a week or two weeks hence . . . so what we do is set a place and time slots try and say who is coming and when and for how long and do our best :-) Lob ------------------------ Yahoo!
