Hi everyone :-)

been busy with family get togethers

:-)

a cast off arrived (what I thought was just a computer case)

It was actually a base unit with
no hard drive
no mouse or keyboard and no monitor

it did have graphics, CD writer, floppy and DVD

well I was given a nice new hard drive for Christmas
and a keyboard (that lights up)
- found an old MS wheel mouse
my old 17" RGB monitor is working fine

So now I have 1200 mhz Duron 256 meg ram, with a CD writer, DVD and
built in net and graphics, sound etc

(I had the whole thing running Knoppix Linux in 10 minutes)

- this is peoples cast off?

The boot up from bios is VERY fast

Now I have to think . . .

A server?
A linux machine?
A dual/multiple booter?

Thinking aloud here . . .

You know what I am gonna do? (for my first project)

Run Solaris from Sun
- that needs 512 meg of ram which I can (maybe mix and match) cobble together

BUT what do I need Solaris for . . . m m m

I think I will start with some party titioning of the hard drive . . .

No Solaris just sounds impressive - what do I need it for?

If it aint broke - don't fix it
- don't need it - don't get it
(laws of geek)

Win 98SE - now that I can use
- Linux is interesting but apart from browsing

- now that sounds good

a dual Win98SE and Linux boot machine

I was told it will NOT run XP
- if I have 98SE on there can check compatibility problems . . .
