I was told it will NOT run XP
Why would it not run XP? You have enough disk, you have enough RAM...the fine
points of this are over my head.

Well it is (quite rightly so) branded as a 'Time' computer
and I seem to remember they had some compatiblity problems

When you install XP it checks the compatibility of your hardware
and whether drivers exist . . .

The source of the incompatibility may have been sorted in the recent
free XP SP (security patch) disk

- now this may seem odd - especially as Linux WILL run on it
but I also found that I could not use the 512 meg ram in the old machine
but it worked OK in the new (they have the same 2 simm slots and they SHOULD
both run it)

At the moment I have one partition of 10 meg (40 meg available)

and getting Win 98SE will be the first task

:-)
