You're comparing apples and coconuts.  I interpreted Hans' comment to mean
that you shouldn't second guess the advice you're being given, not that you
shouldn't ask for more in depth rationale.  Questioning scientific findings
is different than second guessing advice from someone you've deemed highly
qualified to dispense it to you.

This interests me. As a scientist, my teachers welcomed it when I questioned
them. Indeed, I don't think they would have respected me if I hadn't. Should
matters really be so different in music?
