Just one data point for you. My son started trumpet at age 8 and added
French Horn at age 10. We paid no great attention to the mouthpiece or
embouchure of one working like the other, and he did just fine. He took
first place at both the county and region level on both trumpet and French
Horn in 8th grade - it was a good double for him at the time.

When he got to high school, he choose to focus on trumpet, and his trumpet
teacher insisted he stop playing French Horn, so that's what happened, and
it's all turned out just fine to date.

He went through a pretty standard progression of trumpet mpc's - started on
a 7C, I think, then a 3C, then a 1C (and now plays on his teacher's
specific recommendation a 1-1/4C with some custom drilling). His horn mpc
was a Yamaha 30C4 - which always felt like a pea shooter to me (read: tiny)
but it's a pretty common mpc and he did very well with it.

We thank French Horn teacher and esteemed list member Chris Wilhjelm for all
his good advice and teaching for our son.
