Dave Babcock and Tom Howell both won auditions for the Chicago Symphony as
Associate Principals on 8D's. Clarendon Van Norman also played on an 8D as
Principal Horn throughout his tenure in the CSO. Joe Mourek played on a
Schmidt model Conn for many, many, years.

It was told to me by a member of the brass section that when the chips were
down Phil Farkas had an 8D in his hands.

Don't forget though, Phil Farkas played an 8D in the Chicago Symphony in the
50s and another member of the section (sorry I'm blanking on whom at the
moment) played a 28D.  Gail Williams was runner up playing an 8D on one of
the CSO auditions before the one where she won the job.

For us Americans think of it like a 8D player getting into the Chicago
symphony.?
