principal (or to the left of an existing assistant).. 


I recall my single year in 'county honor band' as one of two 'second horns' in 
a doubled up section of eight. The conductor decided in the interests of 
'acoustical balance' that the two principal hornists should be seated in the 
very center of the horn section; 


As far as I can recall, the concert seating for the 1970 Santa Clara County 
Honor Band horn section was as follows (from left to right)
