I use nothing but Moosewood mouthpieces. As for the 'get an Alex' comment - I did think it was originally a bit crass. If there was a one-size-fits-all horn for everybody we wouldn't have so many different manufacturers. Plenty of people have played professionally on Alexes, Paxmans, and even Conn 8Ds and Yamahas. I played Alexes for nearly 40 years now. Let's not be silly, both Paxman and Alex make superb instruments - it's a religious thing really. I have mates who play Paxmans and there's always the banter between us - things like "Yes that sounds good, sounds a bit like a horn doesn't it?" and "That'll be great when you've had it mended". I have two Alex 103's, my main instrument is about 12 years old, (maybe a bit older - I've lost track of time) and the spare is over 50 years old and is in need of some cosmetic attention but both play superbly - I've no excuse really. I think what Walt said about changing Alex parts for Alex parts applies equally to Paxmans (although it seems that over in the states you have some excellent makers who produce extra replacement parts (bells, mouthpipes - sorry, leadpipes I think you call them).
