The Detroit Symphony situation is truly beyond heartbreaking for me. I don't know if people elsewhere realize what a great orchestra the DSO is/was. I've heard all the big name orchestras in this country and the DSO is truly at the top of that league. And because it's no secret how fine the musicians are, it's no surprise they're being courted by other top orchestras. Letting conditions get bad enough that those great musicians have to go elsewhere is an unspeakable crime. The board and management should be ashamed of themselves and Leonard Slatkin should be blacklisted everywhere for not having the b---- to stand up for the integrity of his own orchestra. Meanwhile, don't feel safe at home. Other orchestra managements are already talking about the "Detroit Model".
I'll stop because I'm already spitting nails -Steve Mumford XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX John wrote: What's happening in Detroit is almost heartbreaking for anyone who cares about classical music and the men and women who make it. This from the musicians website: "It is with a heavy heart that the Musicians of the Detroit Symphony announce the departure of our entire percussion section. Our valued colleagues are saying 'Good-bye' as they leave Detroit to continue their professional careers elsewhere."
