There seems to be a whole lot of talking past each other. Hans and a few others 
point out that intonation is a continous process. You have to listen to how you 
sound in the ensemble. 

A conductor could spend 95% of a community orchestra's rehearsal time tuning 
each individual. Even then, once the group started playing, it could all be for 
naught if intonation began to change and players could not adjust.
