How much recording time do you need? I have a Tascam PT-7, which is a 
digital tuner/metronome that includes 20 minutes of digital recording 
time. Very handy for practicing. If you use headphones for playback the 
fidelity isn't too bad.

What do you mean when you say the recorder would be a performance tool 
as well?
