You're one of the lucky ones. Sony took that away, at least from the less 
expensive ones, where you can't transfer to a computer digitally.

Why? The Minidisc records in waw format, which can be directly copied  
to your computer. I do this every time (it takes a software which  
comes with the device). What prevents you from doing the same?
