I've only had two incidents. The first was a return trip from Gander NFLD to Toronto - same plane I came on. Check-in was fine but the TSA (not called that at the time) refused to let me pass with the horn. I went back to the counter and the guy working for the airline came with me, carried it around the scanner, to the door where I met him and took the horn onto the plane.
The second time was a US air flight where they made me put my (Altieri) bag into the designated size metal thing they have before you get to the scanner. Obviously the bell portion wouldn't fit. So I took the bell out and held it on my arm. Then I passed, went through the scanner, and onto the plane. I wish they'd rent horns by the day at Symposia!
