That's a funny one, Ralph. Over here in the States, he would have probably 
gotten away with his ruse, since most customs agents are not musically 
inclined. Now if it were a "pop" artist, he'd be in a world of hurt...

There's a famous story about British trumpet player, the late Bernard  
Brown, who bought a 4-valve piccolo trumpet at Selmer in Paris.  
Returning through British customs, he thought he could easily pass it  
off as a Christmas tree decoration (it was December) and thus avoid  
the tax.

He got up to the counter and the customs officer said,"Hey, you're  
Bernard Brown, the famous trumpet player - and I see you've just  
bought a new Selmer 4-valve piccolo Bb"!  Yikes!
