Greetings from Germany, where we are on tour playing Mahler 2, 6 and 9 for 3 weeks. Perhaps one of you scientific minded folks out there can answer my question about offstage brass. Specifically, why do offstage instruments sound flat from the stage? It's obviously not the Doppler effect, since we are not moving relative to one another, but a Google search did not tell me what I wanted to know. Anyway, if anyone knows, I'd be interested in the answer.
