Jimmie Haskell is a Hollywood arranger whose career extends back at
least to the early sixties. I have two albums, "When love is young" (Dot
DLP 25806) and "Jimmie Haskell's French horns" (Dot DLP 25860) that have
a horn quartet playing on all tracks. The tunes are pretty banal, rising
to an apex (or is it acme?) of "Ode to Billie Joe", but some of the horn
writing is more than competent, with stretches of what may be descant
playing in the lead part. I assume that the players were studio guys on
8Ds and my ear backs this up, but I would love it if anyone knew the
identity of the hornists. I can take a guess myself (De Rosa, Lott,
Breigleb and on), so you don't have to send me that sort of info, but if
you really know something, bring it on. The albums came out around 1963,
so that might narrow the possibilities down a bit. I've located a site
that has some information (and some incorrect discography, so caveat
lector) at <http://www.spaceagepop.com/haskell.htm> if you want any more
background.

Thanks,

Peter Hirsch
