Hi, We are putting a bunch of new info up on the web site tonight about travel and the complete running schedule of events for the symposium.
Please realize that we have limited ability to drive people around. One of the new things on the site is a way to get from the SFO airport to SF State using BART and the Muni bus system for less than $5 and only about 30-40 minutes. If you are spending your first night at the Comfort Inn and then moving to the dorms on Monday, I would advise taking the Comfort Inn shuttle back to the airport early Monday morning and getting on BART and following the web site directions from there. I think there will be some carpooling started at the Comfort Inn as well. I am also advising people to come to registration first, no matter what day you are arriving if you are staying at the dorms, so don't write to me and ask where the dorms are. There were some issues last week with the bass convention where people were dropped off at bad addresses or construction sites while attempting to be dropped off at the dorms. So tell your driver to take you to 1640 Holloway Ave., the Creative Arts building. From there it is easier to find the dorms and we will have people there to help you. There are also some little carts, that are apparently operating, to drive people around. SuperShuttle: Call 1-800-258-3826 for reservations or supershuttle vans are outside of departures. THis can be expensive unless you have a group of people. The school parking lot is on State Dr. off of Lake Merced Drive. Follow the signs. You can offload at the CA building and we can tell you how to find the parking lot. I hope this solves many of the transport problems. If you have already contacted me about this, please let me know if this helps or doesn't help. Our resources are being stretched thin and these are all volunteer people who are doing the driving and we are most concerned about people who have health and age issues, etc. Remember, registration is right inside the CA building on the Holloway side at the box office. You can't miss it. Our symposium office is just a few more feet ahead. Please do not go upstairs. That is off limits. We will have maps of the campus on site, but it is really very simple to find your way around and we are posting signs to the dorms. The City Eats dining room is where i think most people will end up eating on campus that is on the way to the dorms. All the activities are in the one building on one floor. We will have signs posted, but you will understand the layout very easily. For example, all the exhibitors except a couple are on one hallway, and the others very nearby. All the music venues are close together. There is food and drink at the student union only a minute away until 2 or 3pm in the afternoon. Wifi is apparently pretty spotty inside the building. Cell phones do not work inside either, although some have had a little success. There is wifi access in the student union and we are getting the codes for that. That building is right next to the CA building. And one last time. We have no accommodations on campus for Sunday night the 19th or Saturday the 25th. We never did. if you haven't made any, I'm pretty sure there are still rooms at the Comfort that can be used by as many as 4 people. The Genghis Barbie concert at the Pier 23 Cafe (not an official event for the symposium) is at the first come first served basis except for some tables that have been reserved. The will be performing at the workshop, however, on Wednesday at 5PM. We are almost there. I'm looking forward to meeting you.
