Many 8D-copy horns made in China in recent years are exactly this: chrome
plated brass. Why not plate in chrome? I have two reason that come easily
to mind. First, if they plating is not done well, peeling and flaking occur
and rapidly advance. Second, chrome plated instruments are a devil to fix
when dented or creased.

Many marching/DCI instruments are chrome plated. There is no reason it
can't be done. I just don't see why it's worth the bother compared to
lacquer or raw metal.
