You are right absolutely, Darcy. It is the player, who is mediocre in most cases when they complain about equipment. Yes, admitted, mistakes might occur with mass production, absolutely, but it is not the rule.
Taste changes, but even I prefer the narrower bore of Viennese style, it would not be any problem to play on a Conn of any type. The horn is not playing by itself, it just sounds according to the input by the player. How said famous Josef Schantl in a letter to later famous Karl Stiegler (I own this letter): remember always the room you play, the instrument you play & the music you play in what kind of ensemble, but ADJUST your playing accordingly. Punctum. If a player has a thin & poor sound or a thick & fat uncentered bassbaritonmellophonhorntone, there is no help by no equipment change. And these stubborn players do not accept any advice coming from the "battle experienced" professionals. The weakes or thos full of defects are those who open their mouth widest when it comes to critics on equipment, playing technique, candidates at auditions. Even ""??Professionals??"", who themselves have difficulties holding a middle low tone in middle dynamic (p to mf) without wobbling, they critic the candidates tone more than we principal players ever would dare. Shame on these "philisters" !!! PS: Did you know, that the very old Conn horns had the same bore as the Viennese Horns. But that´s a long story & an old story. ======================================================================== == -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Im Auftrag von Darcy Beth Hamlin Gesendet: Freitag, 6.
