I don't have a straight mute from Ion Balu, but I do have a practice
mute from him and the finish is flawless.
Of course the Kowalchuk mute is nicely priced for a handmade mute,
but it seems that either maker is giving you a good deal pricewise 
compared to the Lewis mutes which sell for $140. 
Any word on how the sound compares?
