Take a piece of brass or nickel silver rod and grind a taper on it so it
forms a plug in the hole. Cut the plug so it is about 1/16" long Make sure
the
plug only goes in the hole about the thickness of the tubing (.016 "). Mask
off the tube around both sides of the hole with strips of wet flannel.
Braze the plug into the hole. File and grind the protruding part of the plug
to
fit the contour of the tube. Install the Amado water key. The problem with
an Amado water key on a french horn is that the hole is too small to drain
by gravity. You have to blow the water out with air. A No. 5 or 6 hole will
drain by gravity. We use Holton Water Keys because they accept a large hole
and they have a hole in the spatula that you can thread with a string so it
can be operated by the LH thumb.
