True enough! Much as I might love a "push it toward the wall" brass section, sometimes it was as if the strings and woodwinds didn't exist. *duck* *ow! hey!?*
Of course that didn't stop my buying CSO recordings:-P
When Barenboim took over, the orchestra seemed to sound a bit more balanced.
And now with Haitink... well! Mahler anyone?
