'Grinding noise', huh? I'd stop right there and not play it anymore until fixed - I would be afraid of some real damage if there is a grinding noise going on. Perhaps you are in a small town, or rural, so do not have many repair options. But if I were you, I would start planning a trip to a good shop with a good rep. If you tell us where you live, you will probably get some references to a good shop within a couple hours drive.
