A priority expressed by MSF is to identify the villages names. MSF in various
reports emphasized how important it is in such epidemy to
locate villages rapidly and how the work done in march / april helped
them. This info is used
by responders in locating cases and navigating through rural areas. Two new GIS
officers will move to Sierra Leone and Liberia. Once we have added place names,
they will revise this information and give us some feedback.
Thanks to Pierre Giraud who managed the Task Manager to let crowdsource the
import of GNS Place names. For each task, we simply click to import directly
the Place names for the Task. There will be some 100 nodes to geolocate. JOG
Topomap will help to do this job like we did for Guinea.
One contributor responded so far. We need more experienced mappers. Please
contact me and Andrew privately providing your OSM account. You dont need a
special import account for this since this is not a mechanical import, each
node being located with imagery.
We should receive new imageries this week to map the new priority areas with
the rapid extension of the epidemy over the last month.
Thanks to the people who mapped for Ebola this weekend. They were 90 OSM
contributors and.814 mapped since the beginning of this outbreak in
march.
Pierre
