I am not quite sure what kind of ‘accuracy tools’ you’re asking about.  It 
sounds like you will be mapping in the field? If so, GPS units are going to be 
your best bet (unless you have access to professional survey equipment).  We 
often supply our field missions with Garmin Etrex-20 units 
(http://sites.garmin.com/en-US/etrex/). We also often employ field papers to go 
along with/in-replacement of GPS (http://fieldpapers.org/). 

 

There are also many mobile applications for survey/field-data-collection, I 
think this is a good place to start:
