This comment is made by an inexperienced mapper, and as such the author would not take it bad if it’s considered best to be discarded.
The quality of the work will be better if the validation process happens soon after the mapping, the mapper being able to take kind remarks and suggestions into account in order to improve the quality of his/her work. So we may assume that mapping work should be validated as soon as reasonably possible. I think I have read this under the pen of John Whelan. But we might not have enough (experienced) validators. Nevertheless, it should be possible, and this is my suggestion, to get some reasonably good mappers as first line validators, with maybe some useful guidelines, these validators having on their turn an experienced validator behind them. The work of the (supposedly scarce) experienced validator could then be accelerated. Or maybe tasks.hotosm.org website doesn’t provide for this? Another suggestion that I would like to make in the same vein is the following. We could have a set of quizzes or tests online for mappers to evaluate themselves. To answer the questions : “what could I do to improve the quality of my mapping?”, or “Am I good enough to become a validator?" Whatever the quality of the suggestions, thanks for reading.
