It launches the UI, but I get this error message:

hp-sendfax -d %FAX_URI% --standalone

Most often nothing happens--I click "add to list" and there's no response at
all. Sometimes I get a message that says "You are trying to add a file that
cannot be directly faxed with this utility. To print this file, use the print
command in the application that created it." But when I try to do that--say, by
choosing "newofficejet_fax" in kde's print dialog, the file just sits in a
queue without being faxed.
