Thanks. I will look for the hpiod backend
when I get back to my computer.

Does this mean that hp::// will be in CUPS' list of printer models?

I'm looking for assurance that *I* can make it go.
More specifically, I'm looking for a rational basis for that assurance.
To that end, I'm looking for evidence that what I have
done so far, following directions at http://hplip.sf.net/ ,
has changed my system in a good way.
If it hasn't, something needs fixing.

Sarcasm is soooo tempting here,
but it's rude to tease someone who is being helpful.

The definition of "a very simple process" varies from person to person.
I am often amazed by what some people regard as very simple and what
they don't.
The person who first installed Linux on my computer
spent hours on what he expected to take a few minutes.
Though I am trying to get better, I am not now a *competent* sysadmin.
When I installed a distro on my own, it took me days.
The one I finally got to work, I had to re-install several times.

All that said, the tarball seems to be well done.
There is hope that what I have done is correct
and that all that is left is to get the PSC and
tell CUPS about it.
