Hello David thanks for the reply. You are right. It seems to be a problem with xsane. Using your scan command it scans correctly and stops after the last page. I haven?t thought of this as the scanning with hpoj under xsane works perfectly.
Now I still have to fiddle a bit around with the settings in order to get the correct brightness, contrast and of course resolution (as I?m getting only a ca. 638x886 pixel scan, which is way to low). While I don?t exactly need xsane (a small scanimage script will do fine for me), I will still file a bug report at the xsane bugtracker or mailing list.
