The old HPOJ sofware is in our RPM package hp-officeJet. The new HPLIP sofware is in our RPM packages hplip and hplip-hpijs since Suse Linux 9.3. Both packages can be installed at the same time on the same system. But their services ptal and hplip cannot run at the same time, see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Printer_Configuration_from_SUSE_LINUX_9.3_on and http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Configuring_Scanners_from_SUSE_LINUX_9.3 Strictly speaking it may even not help to remove the package hp-officeJet because the ptal service may still run. The crucial point is to stop the ptal service. I don't know what exactly the HPLIP installer tests. It should first of all test that there is no ptal service running. HPLIP 1.6.10 packages built for Suse Linux 10.1 for 32-bit Intel compatible (i586) and for 64-bit AMD (x86_64) are available for testing (and only for testing) at ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/jsmeix/unsupported/hplip/10.1/ There are incompatibilities with our official HPLIP packages in Suse Linux 10.1.
