ZJ-Stream printers are problematic because of JBIG, see

and in particular your model is additionally problematic

There are many HP LaserJets which support at least PCL5e or even
PostScript so that you get good up to perfect results with them
without any tricks when you install and use them.

Choose a model which belongs to the print class "LJMono" on
http://hplip.sourceforge.net/supported_devices/laser.html
and for details about the classes see
http://hplip.sourceforge.net/tech_docs/device_classes.html
(e.g. avoid "LJFastRaster" which is only "pseudo PCL").
