Hello,
I read in the archives that hplip does not support printing to windows
network printer. But I installed the printer with YAST and have the
necessary PPD files loaded in the relevant directories as per the
details mentioned by Jeremy in this link
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-Color_LaserJet_3500
I have no problems in printing to the make of printers on the network
(xerox and KyoceraMita). CUPS is working and I am able to ping the
printer's IP address.
I had initially not checked the 'Do Local Filtering' for the printer
while adding it in YAST. In this case, when i give a test print, it
prints out 10/11 pages with a single line text. When I check 'Do Local
Filtering' (i have checked it for other printers also), nothing comes
out when i give a test print. Could it be that there is some problem
with the PPD file itself?
I have the following files for HP Color Laserjet 3500. I have checked
with all the 3 PPD files and the results are identical.
file:///usr/bin/hpijs/ppd/HP-Color_LaserJet_3500-hpijs.ppd
file:///usr/share/cups/model/foomatic-ppds/HP/HP-Color_LaserJet_3550-hpijs.ppd.gz
file:///usr/share/cups/model/foomatic-ppds/HP-Color_LaserJet_3500-hpijs.ppd

The list of printers that is displayed during hp-check is
generated by calling CUPS, so, yes, it appears to be.
Can you ping the printer's IP address?
