When I run xsane I get the following lines in /var/log/messages: Jun 18 08:06:11 tahiti kernel: ppdev: user-space parallel port driver Jun 18 08:06:42 tahiti hpiod: device cleanup uri=hp:/net/HP_LaserJet_4100_MFP?ip=192.168.1.152
