A few days ago I made the switch from Windows to Ubuntu Linux (feisty 7.04).
My printer is an HP Photosmart 7260. I must say that printing support
has improved tons since I tried Fedora Core a couple of years back, and
there is very little missing from the functionality of the Windows
driver. (Actually the interface is much better.)

However I do have a few concerns about printing photographs.
a) There is no way that I can find to manually select the paper type. In
Windows there were about two dozens choices of paper type like glossy,
matte, hp premium glossy etc. I imagine most of them didn't actually
effect the printing process, but I think that there are some (subtle)
differences between printing to, say, matte and glossy paper. I really
cannot imagine how a printer (of this price range) can auto-detect the
type of the paper it is being fed. Won't that effect the quality of the
printed photographs? Naturally I want to get the most out of my printer.
b) Borderless printing was very difficult under Windows when the subject
extended near the edge of the photograph, perhaps due to the fact that
the driver did not have an exact match for the 10cm x 15cm sized paper
they sell in my country. I often had to resort to the driver's "preview"
mode to ensure that important parts of the photo didn't get clipped off.
Is there similar functionality under Linux or, better, is there a way to
reduce the amount of clipping that is done during borderless printing?

Many thanks and sorry for my bad English,

Panayiotis
