BETH FLEENOR
Fleenor continues rocking with punk-Ukrainian outfit the Owcharuk 5, with shows
in February, including a Valentine's spectacular at Skylark in west Seattle -
the
PI blog calls them "sexy, danceable, and fun..."
In April, she will remount the 2004 commission "Your Submarine is Here Ma'am"
for
improvised clarinet and laptop, in a concert of electro-acoustic works by
composer
John Burrow entitled You Won't Have This Avatar of Vishnu to Kick Around
Anymore.
See below for the skinny on Fleenor's sonic module Figeater, and their upcoming
five-record performative box set to be released this fall.
Visit www.myspace.com/bethfleenor for a schedule of performances.

WAYNE HORVITZ
Earshot Jazz received support from American Masterpieces: Chamber Music, a
program
of the National Endowment for the Arts, to present Horvitz' work for string
quartet
and improvising soloist, These Hills of Glory. The performance will take place
in
November, as part of the Seattle Symphony chamber music series at the Illsley
Ball
Nordstrom Recital Hall. The piece will feature the odeonquartet and violin
soloist
Carla Kihlstedt.
Horvitz has also received support from CMA/FACE French-American Jazz Exchange,
to
present a series of concerts with percussionist LĂȘ Quan Ninh - performances are
slated for the west coast, British Columbia, NYC, and France.
Visit www.waynehorvitz.net for additional project information and performance
dates.

PARIS HURLEY
This past year violinist/composer Paris Hurley joined Seattle-based powerhouse
Kultur
Shock, and is busy writing/recording for a 2009 release and European tours. She
is also taking on her first role as Artistic Director, in the multimedia
performance,
Bridging Wounds.
Bridging Wounds is a performative multimedia work that melds the
interconnectivity
of nouns with the concept of travel, exploring what it means to be human from a
multitude of perspectives. Blurring the lines between co-existing realities, the
piece pulls from universally shared experiences and sentiments inviting
participants
to step into a world where people are bubbles, bags travel, and unconventional
body
parts take precedent.
You can check out Bridging Wounds in a work-in-progress showing in April as part
of the Henry Art Gallery's Open Floor series. The piece will premiere in the
fall.
Visit www.bridgingwounds.blogspot.com to learn more.

FIGEATER
Figeater, with assistance from the Jack Straw Artist Support Program, will
release
Sweet Figeater Surprise, a performative five-record, sculptural box set
collection
of works, this fall. Featuring sentiments composed and instigated by clarinetist
/ vocal percussionist Beth Fleenor, and a sonic line-up of cavalier
contortionists,
the collection will be deployed in a special multimedia performance in October.
But before all that, you can catch up with the Fig live and in person, at a Meet
the Artist event at Jack Straw in April, or this year's Sounds Outside!
In the mean time, be sure to hit the Raw Fig Buffet for rotating snip-its from
the
latest recording sessions.
Visit www.myspace.com/figeaterparty to eat more.

QUODIA
Quodia has completed the audio piece Orpheus and Eurydice, set for release late
spring. The text is by poet Gregory Orr.
This lyric poem tells the classical story of Orpheus losing his lover to a snake
bite and then traveling down to Hades to return her to Earth. Sadly he can't
meet
the one condition for bringing her back from the dead: don't turn around to look
for her as you walk out of Hades. At the double-loss of Love, Orpheus begins to
sing like no human has ever sung before.
The piece will be released as a two-disc CD set that includes one instrumental
disc
and one disc with music, sound design and text.
Visit www.treygunn.com for more information.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
REPTET
Look for Reptet on their fourth west coast tour this March, in support of their
latest record, Chicken or Beef? The group will also perform at Thurgood
Marshall
Elementary, with support from the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs.
The band heads back to the east coast tour in April, and will release a Reptet
single
on vinyl in July - with funding from the Jack Straw Artist Support Program.
Summer will bring performances at the Kaslo Jazz Festival in Canada, and a
European
tour (France, Serbia, and others).
Visit www.reptet.com for more details and information.
