the skinny

April 2009
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
party people, dynamic humans, beings of light -
can we have your attention please!
we here at the frank agency are jammin 24/7 with literally dozens of percolating
 activities and we can't wait to share them with you as spring unfolds into the
lazy days of summer and on into the coolness of autumn....
but if ever there were a week that you would want to head out and see/hear/smell
 the fruits of our labors, this is it!
(ok, maybe you don't want to smell our fruits....that seems a little odd...but
we're
a little odd, and that's why you love us...)
behold - the skinny!
we hope to see you very soon, and multiple times, in succession.....
xo,
frank
BRIDGING WOUNDS
Tuesday, April 21 - 7 pm
Open Floor presents
BRIDGING WOUNDS: an interactive work-in-progress showing
HENRY ART GALLERY
4100 15th AVE NE
FREE
PARIS HURLEY: artistic direction / music / movement
EZRA DICKINSON: choreography / movement
JAMIE IACOLI: textural environment
AMANDA MOORE: animation / video
PAURL WALSH: audio production
In the land of BRIDGING WOUNDS, it is believed that the human experience is a
great
big experiment - and the creative process is no exception.  At this first
work-in-progress
showing, you'll get a peak at what these artists have been up to and can opt to
help  create the next phase by following directions like, "turn in a circle
pausing
every 90 degrees" and "chomp that gum into this microphone." Think of it as a
sort
of 'science lab of life experiences'  - they'll give you a drum set wrapped in
post-its
and you give them a bit of your humanness.
BRIDGING WOUNDS is...
A performative multimedia work that melds the interconnectivity of nouns with
the
concept of travel, exploring what it means to be human from a multitude of
perspectives.
Blurring the lines between co-existing realities, the piece pulls from
universally
shared experiences and sentiments inviting participants to step into a world
where
people are bubbles, bags travel, and unconventional body parts take precedent.
FIGEATER
Thursday, April 23 - 7 pm
(M)eet the Fig - An Exuberant Tutorial on Sweet Figeater Surprise
JACK STRAW PRODUCTIONS
4261 Roosevelt Way NE
FREE
With assistance from the Jack Straw Artist Support Program, Figeater will
release
Sweet Figeater Surprise, a performative five-record box-set, Fall 2009. This
"exuberant
tutorial" will take audience members through the components that make up the
forthcoming
Surprise, give you an opportunity to sit with the official Sweet Figeater
Surprise_Processing
Manual, and open the hatch for you eat the fig yourself...
(The Meet the Artist event will also feature composer Brian Cobb and
composer/Indian
classical singer, Srivani Jade)
Disjunctive, raucous, soaring, and powerful - Figeater is a textural, tribal
exploration
of organic movement, instigated by clarinetist/composer Beth Fleenor.
Improvisations
are punctuated, buttoned and launched by original compositions and songlike
psychedelic
episodes, with an emphasis on enviornmental participation. It has been called
sonic
spelunking - or an all improvised fun time.
"Daringly, {Figeater} was down right pretty, not a term often associated with
free
improv...while later it was visceral, convulsive and more than a bit creepy..."
- Seattle Weekly
Figeater is a time-based, performance process emphasized ensemble vehicle where
audience and enviornment are recognized members of the configuration performing.
 It is through the combination of these components that the performance takes
place.
