Is it in a non-standard location? Where are ssl.h, libssl, and libcrypto
found on your system?

No. That's my point--to do this, you'd have to take all of the htnet/ code
and that's just silly. The 3.1.x code (and before) were really only
intended to do HTTP and there are large chunks of code that make this
assumption. Such backports would be massive and IMHO potentially cause
instability--you might miss a section.
This is my answer to the "ssl.3" patch you mention. I do not like the idea
of having it in any proposed 3.1.6 release. If someone wants to patch
their copy, great.
