A few weeks ago I volunteered to look into a re-design of the htdig site.
My results are at:

Please visit the site and let me know if you like the site and any
suggestions you may have. My initial goal in the re-design was to make
certain information (i.e. the faq) more prominent and to update the overall
look and feel of the site. Geoff has already weighed in with worthy
suggestions, which I implemented to the best of my ability. Currently the
Advanced Search page has nothing on it, it will eventually be a "Show off"
page for the search engine. The Search Form is not hooked up. Geoff also
mentioned a surplus of empty space on the left navigation which I haven't
seen in Windows (IE4,5 or Netscape4,6). The feedback page is also just a
mock up. I verified that the internal links are working, and the pages
validate to HTML 4.0 transitional.
