It's fairly simple. During query parsing, htsearch uses the
search_algorithm attribute to form "fuzzy" alternatives to the user words:
<http://www.htdig.org/attrs.html#search_algorithm>
These fuzzy alternatives are queried in addition to the "exact" query and
are weighted accordingly. So documents that match exact words and fuzzy
words get scored higher (adding both contributions). More helpful is that
documents that don't match the exact query but do match some of the fuzzy
terms are still included in results.
